AMERICAN THEATRE SENIOR EDITOR RANDY GENER WAS CONFERRED
PAMANA NG PILIPINO ("LEGACY OF THE FILIPINO NATION")
PRESIDENTIAL AWARD ON DECEMBER 14, 2010
NEW YORK CITY: Randy Gener was conferred with the 2010 PAMANA NG PILIPINO (Legacy of the Filipino Nation) Presidential Award by the President of the Philippines in a ceremony to be held on December 14, 2010.
The Pamana Ng Pilipino Presidential Award is conferred "on Filipinos overseas, who, in exemplifying the talent and industry of the Filipino, have brought the country honor and recognition through excellence, dedication and distinction in the pursuit of their work and the advancement of their profession. They have displayed social consciousness in terms of manifesting strong community spirit, or leading and actively participating in projects and activities for the common good," says the Commission on Filipino Overseas, which administers the Awards.
Gener joined seven Filipino organizations, one foreign group, three foreigners and 13 Filipinos who were the recipients of the 2010 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas. The recipients came from United States, Hong Kong, South Korea, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Australia, Germany and Canada.
The Presidential Awards is a biennial awards system which was institutionalized through Executive Order 498 signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino in 1991. The Awards recognize the achievements and significant contributions of Filipino individuals and organizations overseas to communities here and abroad. It is also a part of the activities in celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day this December.
"Sent to us by JoAnna Albert:
I am saddened to announce that Carolyn Albert passed away on June 15th in the hospital. She died of pneumonia. Would you kindly inform the Outer Critics Circle community of her passing. I was her theater going partner for my most of my life. Her thoughtful and insightful reviews always helped me grasp a show at a deeper level. She will be missed.
Thank you.
JoAnna Albert
I was privileged to work in collaboration with Carolyn on an OCC panel many years ago. Over the years she has been an active and outspoken (as a critic should be) member of
the OCC whose contributions will not be forgotten.
Simon Saltzman, President"
